FRENCH HERITAGE PARTICIPATES IN THE JULIAN PRICE HOUSE “DESIGNER SHOWHOUSE”

Preservation Greensboro selects the historic home for a Designer Showhouse

GREENSBORO, N.C., March 28, 2018 –– French Heritage is thrilled to announce that its beautiful furniture will be featured within “Hillside”, the historic home of Julian Price, for a Designer Showhouse. The transformation of this early 20th century English Tudor style gem features more than 9,000 square feet of living space, with 31 rooms. The home will showcase renowned interior designers and nationwide manufacturers, including French Heritage, a fashion-forward furniture company that excels in quality home furnishings.

The esteemed mansion is an architectural gem featuring stucco, herringbone brick, false-half timbered walls, massive brick chimneys, as well as gables, wall dormers, and a stair tower. It is also listed as a county landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

“We are honored to be a part of this Designer Showhouse, especially since it’s right in our backyard,” said Henessy Wayser, President of French Heritage. “We thank Debby Gomulka for showcasing our pieces in her stunning dining room. We believe our furniture embodies the fashion, function, and feeling the designer was seeking to achieve within that space. And, we welcome their visitors to our High Point Showroom at 1638 English Road.”

In the late 1940s, the Julian Price House was donated to First Presbyterian Church. Later, in the 1970s, the home was sold to interior designer Sandra Cowart and her husband. The property regained popularity through its appearance on the 2 hour season finale of A&E’s reality series, “Hoarders.” The current owners of the historic mansion, Michael and Eric Fuko-Rizzo, are closely involved with all aspects of this historic home’s revival.

“We are excited to see what each designer brings to each space,” says Eric Fuko-Rizzo. “We only ask that the interior designers incorporate the glamour of 1929 into the new renovations of 2017. Our intention is to preserve the history and charm of the early 1900’s yet provide the functionality and convenience of today’s modern world.”

“We are thrilled that so much talent and heart have come into this historic mansion, and we are ready to see what our designers and sponsors do to transform each space,” explains Linda Lane, showhouse chair.

On April 7th, this historic home, which is located at 301 Fisher Park Circle, will open to the public for tours. To attend the preview party or purchase tickets, contact Mary Beth De Loache at 336-266-0110 or mb@marybethpr.com. To learn more about the Julian Price House, visit: www.julianpricehouse.com.

Many have resolved to reconnect with nature for the new year, and Pantone's color of 2017 mirrors this intention. Described as a "fresh and zesty yellow-green" shade, 'Greenery' recalls the lush revival of spring and is symbolic of new beginnings. Greenery suggests a global response to modern life and a desire to reconnect with the natural world.

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, explains their symbolic color selection,"Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose."

How to make a French Cherry Clafoutis

How to make a French Cherry Clafoutis

Summer Recipes

Alex Pommier 0 3841 Article rating: No rating

The clafoutis is a classic dessert from Limousin in Central France. It originates from the Occitan word clafotis, a word derived from the verb clafir or claufir, which means "to fill up". The clafoutis is a simple baked dessert of a thick crepe-like batter filled with black cherries. Since June marks the start of cherry season, what better recipe for a summer day?  Leave the cherry pits intact for a delicate almond-like flavor, as well as a reminder to carefully savor each bite. If you want to stay on the safe side with any careless types you can pit the cherries and add a splash of almond extract to the batter.

French Heritage Cherry Clafoutis Recipe
(Makes about 6-8 servings)
20 oz fresh black cherries, stemmed
2 tbsp butter, melted
4 eggs
1 cup milk
3/4 cup flour
Pinch of salt
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
(Optional: powdered sugar for dusting)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease your baking dish with butter, and dust with about 2 tbsp of sugar.
2. Arrange cherries in baking dish in a single layer; set aside until you prepare the batter.
3. With a blender or whisk, mix eggs with remaining sugar and salt. Stir in flour. Add milk, vanilla extract and mix until well combined. Add melted butter and stir to combine. The resulting mixture should be similar to crepe batter but slightly thicker.
4. Pour the batter over the cherries.
5. Bake for about 40-45 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving. Serve warm or chilled.

Not crazy about cherries? Make a Flognarde instead by substituting the black cherries with other seasonal fruits, including berries, plums, or apricots! If you try out this recipe share a photo with us on social media by tagging your post with #FrenchHeritage and #FHhome. Bon appetit!

Take a look behind the scenes at our Indonesian factory where all of our mosaics are hand-laid (photos above). Entering the space you'll find our talented artisans silently immersed in their work, boxes filled with tiny pieces of glass in all colors cover their work tables. The mood is remarkably peaceful and calm as the artisans delicately lay each tiny piece of glass into place by hand. Just one of our small mosaic tables will take three artisans up to two or three weeks to complete. The finished mosaics are incredibly intricate works of art that glimmer when they catch light.

In our collection of mosaics you will find a few permanent designs but a mosaic can also be made from any pattern, picture or design. We can take a piece of fabric or a photograph and have a custom mosaic made just for you. Contact us if you have any questions about a custom mosaic, these pieces can make very personal and thoughtful gifts. Perfect for weddings, anniversaries and more. French Heritage currently offers mosaic consoles, dining tables, accent tables, cocktail tables, and wall art. View more on our shop page by searching 'mosaic'!
